WORKING IN CANADA—TIPS FOR NON-CANADIANS

Taken from Citizenship and Immigration Canada website

You must have a valid work permit to work in Canada.

Before you apply for a work permit:   An employer must first offer you a job.

HRSDC (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and Social Development Canada) must normally provide a labour market opinion or "confirmation" of your job offer. However, some types of work are exempt from this process. (See below)

After HRSDC confirms that a foreign national may fill the job, you apply to CIC for your work permit.

Foreign workers may do some jobs in Canada without a work permit:

· Family Members of Foreign Representatives

· On-Campus Employment

· Athletes and Coaches

· Judges and Referees

· Examiners and Evaluators

· Civil Aviation Inspectors

· Emergency Service Providers

WORKING IN CANADA

We understand the challenges that non-Canadians face in obtaining employment in an unfamiliar country.  Beyond the government requirements (see below), there are often additional obstacles to overcome.

We work with job seekers in other countries, as well as newcomers to Canada.  We assist them with determining compatibility of educational and technical qualifications, as well as emphasizing their transferable skills.

Our human resource professionals have the contacts, education, knowledge and experience to assist a job seeker in making their presentation competitive and marketable to companies in Canada.  We utilize this experience to guide job seekers to industries and firms that may be able to utilize their education, background and skill set.

We appreciate the challenge of competing with candidates that have established themselves in the Canadian workforce, and attempt to provide assurances while newcomers adjust to their new circumstances.

We suggest that you refer to our explanation of “How an Employment Agency works for a Job Seeker”, as well as the Job Seeker Services which offers “Consultation Services”.  These services may be performed over the telephone or online.

To set up a consultation session, submit details of your requirements and employment situation, along with your resume to contactus@worthpersonnel.com. It will be helpful to attach details of any positions that may be of interest to you, or for which you feel qualified.

Indicate a suitable time for a scheduled meeting.  We will contact you to discuss your requirements, and will then confirm a meeting time.  You are assured a seasoned and experienced human resource professional.
